How Actimist Works
Optrex Actimist can provide help for various types of eye ailments associated with reduced moisture in your eyes. The various symptoms may include dry, tired and itchy eyes. Optrex Actimist can help to replenish the eyes’ natural moisture layer, while also helping to moisturise the skin around them. Actimist helps maintain and manage your eye health.
The Causes of Eye Discomfort
Dry, irritable or tired eye problems can occur for a number of reasons. In more recent times, one of the most likely reasons for dry eyes could be associated with the prolonged use of computers.
This is because the amount of blinking is reduced when looking at a screen, which decreases tear distribution on the eye surface, also lessening the removal of irritants.
However, other factors such as certain medications, hormonal changes, environmental factors (like hot air or high wind) and aging can all help to cause dry eyes.
The Science behind Dry Eyes
When you blink a tear film is spread across your eyes. One function of the film is to help reduce the evaporation of moisture.
However, in many cases, a gap in the tear film develops, allowing moisture to evaporate from the surface of your eye. This can result in the feeling of dryness or itchiness.
So, the tear film (which includes a lipid layer that helps to lock in moisture) needs to be replenished or repaired in order to help prevent further moisture loss from the surface of the eye.
What Optrex Actimist Does
Optrex Actimist* is sprayed onto closed eyes. It collects at the edges of your eyelids and when you open your eyes again, the liposomes in Actimist mix with the tear film on the surface of your eye.
After more blinking, Actimist has spread across the surface, helping to stabilise the eye's lipid layer and lock in the natural moisture.
Optrex Actimist provides instant relief for up to 4 hours.
Some other Benefits
Optrex Actimist is suitable for use with contact lenses (another leading cause of dry eyes). Also, unlike some eye solutions, Actimist can be used up to six months after opening before requiring replacement.
* Dry & irritated eyes due to disturbed lipid layer of the tear film causes approx. 80% of dry eye cases
